Our Assessment Process
At **The Breathing Lab**, every assessment follows a clear, organized process so athletes, coaches, and parents understand exactly what is being measured and why it matters. Our goal is to make respiratory performance testing professional, practical, and easy to understand.
## Step 1: Athlete Intake & Baseline Profile
We begin by collecting basic athlete information, including age, sport, team affiliation, training background, position, and general performance goals.
This first step helps us understand the athlete before testing begins. A hockey player, soccer player, endurance athlete, or combat athlete may all have different demands, so the baseline profile gives context to the results.
## Step 2: Respiratory & Cardiovascular Testing
Next, we perform a structured assessment using professional testing tools to measure key indicators such as lung function, peak expiratory flow, FEV1, oxygen saturation, heart rate, blood pressure, recovery response, and related performance markers.
These results help create a snapshot of how the athlete’s respiratory and cardiovascular systems are performing at that point in time.
## Step 3: Performance Report
After testing, each athlete receives a clear, professional report summarizing the results.
The report is designed to be easy for athletes, parents, and coaches to understand. It highlights strengths, areas that may benefit from improvement, and key measurements that can be tracked over time.
## Step 4: Training Recommendations
Based on the assessment results, we provide practical respiratory training recommendations.
These may include breathing muscle training, structured progressions, suggested training frequency, O₂ Trainer settings, recovery focus, and follow-up testing recommendations. The goal is not to overload the athlete, but to provide a focused plan that fits into their existing training schedule.
## Step 5: Follow-Up Evaluation
Progress must be measured, not guessed.
A follow-up evaluation allows us to compare new results against the original baseline. This helps determine whether the athlete is improving, maintaining, or needs adjustment in their respiratory training approach.
For teams, follow-up testing can be completed during the season, after a training block, or at key development points.
## Why This Process Works
Coaches need information they can trust. Athletes need feedback they can understand. Parents want to know their child is being properly assessed.
Our process gives everyone a clear picture: where the athlete is today, what can be improved, and how progress will be measured going forward.
At The Breathing Lab, we do not rely on guesswork. We assess, report, recommend, and reassess—creating a professional system that helps athletes and coaches make better performance decisions.
